Questions & Answers
How long will my training take?
The short answer is "It depends". Time taken depends on many factors such as how often you'd like to come in for training, helicopter and instructor availability and of course as with anything in aviation- the weather. For a person who is starting out fresh and trains 5 or 6 times a week, it could take around 3 months, however everyone's training is unique and could take more or less time.
Are there any advantages to training at a large international airport?
Certainly. Cape Town International is an ideal location for training, being centrally located means that it is within comfortable driving distance from most of the suburbs of Cape Town. There are other more important advantages though; since it is a controlled airport students are exposed from very early in their training to operating within different airspaces and quickly become proficient with their radio work. This prepares our students very well for real life scenarios that they are likely to encounter once they become commercial pilots. Pilots trained at our school will be comfortable with operating at unfamilliar airports and airspaces, controlled and uncontrolled alike. Cape Town International is also situated within a few minutes flight from the GFA (General Flying Area) and a number of uncontrolled airfields where a lot of your training will be done.
Do I need to have any qualifications to become a pilot?
No - you only need to comply with the license requirements.
Is there a fixed schedule for my training? Do you train people in groups?
No, training is completely flexible. You can start your training whenever it suits you. Training is done on a one-on-one basis for practical training. Ground school training may be done in groups if there are enough people requiring tutoring on the same subject, but can be done on a one-on-one basis if you prefer.
